Well, I made it to my new home safely and got the internet up and running today. Just in time for all the Maaya news on this lovely (and hot!) Friday afternoon. The news is already around here and there but I thought I’d round up some of the stuff out there.
There are several articles up in Japanese at the moment on the internet about Rasmus Faber, as he has a new EP up on the iTunes website apparently. Victor Music also have a nice website for him where you can listen to samples of his music (the news that he’s working on Maaya’s new CD has been announced there as well) here.
Read the articles on Excite Anime News, CD Journal or Oops Music.
Maaya’s live in September has also been given the title ‘Open Air Museum’. This is the concert that will be held at the Tomioka Silk Mill, a World Heritage Site. The tickets are also on sale now if you think you’ll be in the area. More details are available on Maaya’s official site.
Then there was the big news: Maaya will have a new song as the opening to the new series of Tamayura ~hitotose~ which starts in October.
The song’s title is ‘Okaerinasai’ and was composed by none other than the famous of Matsutoya Yumi!! Matsutoya, you might recall, was the original singer of ‘Yasashisa ni tsutsumaretara’, which Maaya covered for the first series of Tamayura last year.
Articles and news for Okaerinasai: Natalie, Maaya’s Official Site, Tower Records
EDIT: According to twitter, Maaya will be talking about the collaboration on Vitamin-M tonight (^^V

News roundup for a Wednesday afternoon
Maaya in Pirahna 3D dub
Yes, you heard correctly, Maaya has been cast in the Japanese dub of the horror-comedy film Pirahna (in 3D!)...well, if you enjoy shoals of fish eating people with Maaya voicing over the action then it's good news. Source: Hollywood Channel.
Season two of Glee DVD's announced
Maaya will be continuing her role as Rachel in the Japanese dub of Glee for the new season, as announced by HMV Japan. The DVD's will be coming out in December, just in time for Christmas!
'Sangetsuki' - 3rd 'Full Moon Recital Hall' cover unveiled
The editor's blog on Sai-zen-sen has revealed the cover design for the next volume of the Full Moon Recital Hall series. 'Tis very nice. I prefer the first volume and 'Bedtime Story' illustrations but the the story itself was interesting.

New Marvel Blade anime role
Am I the only one who thinks the character designs in Blade, an anime-fied version of our favourite Marvel vampire killer, are ugly?
Maaya is playing knuckle-dusting, vampire-hunter Makoto. Makoto's father was also a vampire-hunter, but he was turned into a vampire by the evil (I'm assuming from his creepy character design) Deacon Frost before being staked by Blade. Her anger towards Blade eventually softens and they end up as partners in crime, according to the character summary on the official site here.
Well, the character designs don't look up to much but a preview screen shot of the first episode here makes Makoto look a lot prettier.
So, butt-kicking vampire action ahead.

Maaya stars in Usagi Drop adaptation
Maaya will be starring in the anime adaptation of popular manga Usagi Drop (Rabbit Drop) which begins airing on July 7th. According to Wikipedia the story ‘depicts the struggles of the bachelor Daikichi to raise an orphan, Rin, who is the illegitimate daughter of his grandfather. Part one takes place when Rin is six years old, while part two begins ten years later.’
Maaya will be playing Seiko, Rin’s mother. Unfortunately, the character’s design hasn’t been put on the official anime homepage yet so you’ll have to wait.
Interestingly, this adaptation comes not so long after the adaptation of the manga into a live-action movie starring Kennichi Matsuyama. The trailer of which can be seen on the official movie homepage. I think I might prefer the look of the film, actually. It comes out in August.

Maaya on Fuji TV's 'Meza-nyuu' (Wake-up news)
I saw this being talked about on the Japanese fansites but Youtube has come to the rescue with an upload. Maaya was featured on a (very) early morning TV show on the 26th January called Meza-nyuu. It's one of those morning news/entertainment/weather/horoscope TV shows. There's a little interview with Maaya, they talk to a music critic, and then the host goes with Maaya on a walk. I imagine it's a pre-recorded walk because the clock says it's 4am when it was broadcast!
EDIT: Well, the video got taken down but the summary remains ^^;;;
Interesting things in the video:
1) If you type Sakamoto into Google, Maaya Sakamoto comes up as the first suggestion - above Ryouma Sakamoto (the Japanese historical figure)
2) When she meets up with the presenter, they ask whether she was doing some work that morning. Maaya replies that she was talking some things over with a manga artist for work(!?)
3) Regarding her number one: "It was like, I'm so happy that I got number one. For the first time in thirty years. Like, so this the happiness you feel when you get number one."
4) "When I was a child, I actually had a complex that there was really nothing special about me at all" But later in the interview she says she decided one day that being ordinary was the 'something special' about her.
5) They have a clip of her as Eponine in Les Miserables.
6) The writer at CDJournal says: she's expanded her fanbase outside of just anime fans and that's part of the reason why she's finally number one on Oricon. (He also says that when she sings there is something really fascinating about her ^^V)
7) That picture of Maaya was taken when she was eight years old *_* so cute!!
8) The clip of 'Alice in Wonderland': Maaya was nine at the time of recording. That's little Maaya's voice!!
10) Maaya finds it difficult to explain what exactly her work is, is it a seiyuu, singer, actress? She says that you should decide what Maaya Sakamoto is first.
Maaya getting number one on Oricon seems to have done quite a lot for her exposure! She's also been featured on the latest Victor Music Channel web show 'V-chan'. You can watch that on Youtube as well here.
